These are students whose parents serve our Country in the Military. Bill Steel, Partner at SGS, along with staff and attorneys from the firm joined the students to see marine birds, sea lions and dolphins. The experience included examining the benthic and pelagic habitats by deploying oceanographic sampling equipment to collect a variety of marine specimens including plankton and species who make their home in the mud. This field trip is a great opportunity for the children to learn about the ocean and its inhabitants first hand. It is also a great experience for the firm and its employees to join the children on this adventure each year.
SG&S Blue Whale Watching 2009 - Ocean Institute in Dana Point This exciting cruise excursion took us to the open Pacific waters searching for the large California Gray Whale. A certified marine biologist guided us through this tour as we spotted not only one; but also three Grey Whales in their natural environment, incredibly exciting!! ![]() SG&S supports the following programs: American Heart Association, GO Red for Women- National Wear Red Day Passionately Pink for the Cure for Breast Cancer Awareness Sneakers at Work Day for Prostate Cancer Awareness
Samuels, Green & Steel, LLP's 5th Annual
Ocean Institute Adopt-a-Class Event
Spending half a day with curious Elementary School students on the R/V Sea Explorer is an Annual Event that SG&S sponsors and looks forward to each year. The kids are delighted learning about sea creatures and cruising on a research vessel off of the coast of Dana Point. For many of these children this is their first experience out on the ocean. The attorneys and staff in our office take the morning off and led by Bill Steel, Partner of SG&S and Chair of the Ocean Institute's Board of Directors, spend 4 hours with these young explorers sharing their adventures in experiencing the ocean and its amazing inhabitants. The goal is to give these children an opportunity to learn about marine life and the environmental to protect and care for our oceans and the variety of creatures that live there. The thank you letters from the children after the event speak volumes. To quote some of their experiences: "I like the ocean water splashing up on me." "I learned there are two kinds of plankton; zooplankton and phytoplankton." "I liked the Peterson Grab because the sea mud touched the ocean floor and I saw a sea worm!" "My favorite part was watching the dolphins and sea lions. It was the best thing ever!" This Adopt a Class event was held on Tuesday, December 11, 2007.
